WAYLAND EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

January 28th, 2010 | By All Day

What fantastic news I received in the mail today! Last academic semester I was hunting the Internet for possible scholarships and/or grants to assist in funding my higher education at Arizona State University. After a couple of months and having applied for numerous scholarships, I finally received a letter in the mail from the Wayland Educational Foundation Scholarship! Great news! I am the recipient of their scholarship!

WINTER SESSION COURSE x ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY

January 5th, 2010 | By All Day

Thus far I have been enrolled in a winter math class for the past week and have only a week and a half remaining to complete the entire course to obtain my three credits sufficiency for my math requirement at Arizona State University.
I have some news for ya’ll. There are only three A’s in the class, four B’s, and eight F’s. Fortunately, I am one of the students whom claims an A; however, the class only gets more difficult as we advance on material. Since of today, six people have dropped the class. Out of the three exam we have taken, I have only missed two questions combined, yet I am still afraid and stressing a little. Keep in mind this three week course has cost me $1,300 to enroll plus the $619 ticket I got while driving to class the other day.

I know I will be fine…

FALL ‘09 SEMESTER FINALLY OVER!

December 21st, 2009 | By All Day

Wow! What a great academic year! I can definitely say I learned an enormous amount of new material and I am able to apply these new teachings into the ‘real world’. I had awesome Professors who bared with me the entire time via email, office hours, and during class, when I could not manage to comprehend material. I put forward a huge amount of commitment and dedication; all those late night studying and not going out on weekends definitely paid off! My sincerest appreciations to everyone who supported me this semester, mentally, financially, and emotionally. Most importantly, thank you to the Dorans, Alicia, and Robby, who always guide me towards the right path in a higher level of education. Looking forward toward Spring semester ‘10 … but even earlier than that, I will be taking one winter class at ASU, class begins on the 29th.

PRESENTATION x PUBLIC SPEAKING CLASS

November 24th, 2009 | By All Day

I had a great day in class, my classmate Adrian presented a speech on why one should shop at “El Super” groceries store rather than “Fry’s”, “Safeway”, or “Albertson’s”. He also brought in each store’s advertisements newspaper and was sporting an El Super polo shirt…
And I quote him, “Why buy avocados at Safeway for 76 cents each, when at El Super you can get 4 for 98 cents; honestly, I don’t know what Safeway is thinking.”

DINNER x DORAN SCHOLARS

November 4th, 2009 | By All Day

Since the Dorans are in town, they decided to take us all out for dinner. The dinner was conducted this past Sunday in Tempe. We all shared with the Dorans current volounter events we have conducted this semester, our academic standing, and how we are doing overall in life.

Should I mention they literally shut down half of the restaurant for us, vip status! Nothing unusual though, they have shut down Zac’s for an entire morning on a Saturday for us before. FYI, Zac’s is an ‘expensive’ store inside of the Baltimore Mall in Phoenix, Arizona. Yeah, I guess you can call the Dorans “ballers”, lol.
In the mist of it all, like the Dorans tell us, now a days it is all about networking and education. The Dorans are extremely well known. They have so many connections everywhere, you would be surprised of the people they are friends with. I am truly blessed for being part of the Doran Community Scholarship Program.

VOLUNTEER x ASU HOMECOMING

November 4th, 2009 | By All Day

This past weekend my cohort, the Doran Scholars and I, were part of the Arizona State University’s Homecoming Parade which was held in Tempe, at the ASU’s main campus.

Truthfully, I have never been a part of a parade before. This was a great experience. The crowd on the side of the road where cheering for us with great enthusiasm. This was definitely an experience I will not forget. I had a great time volunteering with my scholars and being part of this event. Shout outs to Mr. and Mrs. Doran who flew out from Michigan to be part of our parade. They are the donors of our scholarship, they play a huge role in our lives. Mr. and Mrs. Doran are the most loving and caring people I know. Thank you for all your support! Ya’ll are a huge reason why I am currently attending Arizona State University.

FEELING LIKE A ZOMBIE…

October 23rd, 2009 | By All Day

These past few days have been the longest days ever. I have been extremely occupied, everything is pulling me from all angles. Yesterday I stayed up studying till 3am and had to wake up at 430am for a class meeting we had at 5am. Ever since a couple days back, I have only been getting about 4 hours of sleep per day. I have not taken a break, or slept well (today I have gotten a hour and a half of sleep thus far), I have been conducting interviews for class, showing up at meetings, gathering materials for our car wash tomorrow, studying for exams coming up next week, spending time with my parents whom are visiting, working, volunteering, the AREA, and so much more. I am dearly feeling like I am almost to a point where I need a bubble; to go hide for a couple of hours and just relax, take a nap. I notice that will not happen any time soon, I guess you can say I am progressing toward the ‘real world;’ where everything is up-pace, paying bills, and not having the freedom I did when I was teenager. I just hope I enjoy everything while I’m up and about and not just focus on getting ‘the job done’.

ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY

October 6th, 2009 | By All Day

As you may have noticed by now, I have been stressing the issue I have not had time to relax and enjoy myself, take a break. There is simply too much on my mind, too many objectives to complete on a regular basis, I wish there were more hours in a day. Then again, I believe it is my fault I am pushing myself too hard. I am currently taking 17 credit hours, an internship, volunteer work, and a job. Like I hear from my surroundings all the time, you must sacrifice to be successful in life, nothing is given, everything is earned. With that said, I am going to end it real simple for ya’ll tonight…

Don’t bank your dreams on being the world’s next “this” or “that”. Instead, focus on being the world’s first “you”….

Goodnight.

Truly Yours,

All Day
